What Sue thought was a temporary position turned into a 10-year-long career at Xplornet getting people in rural Canada connected.

After being laid off from an administrative position, she and her sister were driving by the Xplornet office in Fredericton, New Brunswick when they saw a sign for a hiring open house.

Here she had a conversation with Xplornet staff, enjoyed some food and drinks and filled out an application.

“I hadn’t even heard of Xplornet. Everyone was so nice. We did a phone interview, then later a formal interview and I was hired.”

Sue says the training process was slow and steady and left her feeling very prepared.

“They have people right there if you have any questions so it’s not like you’re on your own. I had someone sitting with me and listening to me and if I needed help, they were right there,” she said.

Sue finds helping customers very rewarding.

A month ago, a doctor needed a connection desperately to stay in touch with his clients during COVID-19 and Sue went the extra mile.

“We were so booked up, but we were still able to expedite and get him booked in within a couple of days. The customer was so grateful.”

Technically, Sue’s job is to sell Internet in a call centre, but she says the working environment is not what you would expect.

“It’s not like a call centre. We’ve got a good group. The managers are great, and I really enjoy talking to the customers. Everyone helps everybody. It’s just a good place,” she said.

Sue enjoys the social committee events, like barbeques and Xplornet sponsored fun runs and she can’t say enough about how flexible her managers are when it comes to her schedule.

When my daughter was little they were just so accommodating. They are just really understanding about life,” she said.

Sue says her department runs overtime contests, holiday contests, and that they give away prizes to the employee of the month.

These contests may keep Sue motivated, but she thinks that much of her selling talent is as a result of her true confidence in Xplornet and the services they provide.

“If I didn’t believe in the product, I wouldn’t be able to sell it,” she said.

All of Sue’s hard work has paid off and now she is on her way to accomplishing a long-time goal.

“I just got approved for a mortgage. I’ve been renting my whole life. I’ve worked really hard and I’ve got the money for a down payment. This was my biggest personal goal. I had given up and now it’s becoming a reality so that’s huge for me,” she said.

Sue would recommend a career at Xplornet to anyone.
